Reiki Origins and My Journey
I was introduced to Reiki in 2009 and when I experienced it, I wanted it! I couldn’t explain it, but I knew that something had opened within me; something I did not even know was possible.
In my search for understanding, I studied Reiki with three different teachers and found that all teaching is not the same. There are many ways to teach Reiki. I learned that Reiki, a Japanese term meaning “universal life force energy,” is a gentle healing practice. The core philosophy is that a balanced flow of this energy promotes relaxation, well-being, and stress reduction. Reiki is delivered through light touch; it is non-invasive, non-religious, and adaptable to any belief system. I also discovered that the energy of the Reiki goes into the aura of the person giving it, then flows to the person receiving it.
Its history is that in 1922, Japanese Tendai Buddhist monk Mikao Usui spent around 2 weeks in meditation on Mount Kurama, near Kyoto, and discovered the system of healing we now know as “Reiki”. The picture featured here is one I took in 2010. It is the top of Mt Kurama where Reiki was born. I was privileged to spend time alone on that same summit in 2010, seeking a connection with Usui’s legacy.
But what I found instead, was about me; a profound discovery of myself, a truly extraordinary experience! I discovered that Reiki was part of my ‘re-awakening’.
Although I reached the Teaching Level, I chose not to teach it but rather use the energy to incorporate healings with my Essential oils that I loved so much.
I am so grateful that over 100 years ago, the Universe gifted us with something very different to what anyone at the time believed in. And has paved the way to so many people having experienced the energy of and now ‘know’ of the word “Reiki”.
